Almost every piece and component of the Z has been redesigned from the previous Z model. The overall width has been increased by 1. The smaller exterior dimensions and use of more lightweight materials helped reduce weight. The Z features a front aluminum subframe, aluminum-alloy engine cradle, aluminum door panels, an all-aluminum hood, and an aluminum hatch.
Front body torsional rigidity is improved by 10 percent with an extensively revised body structure, which includes a new front suspension cradle to reduce front body lateral bending, new rear structural reinforcements, and an underbody "V-bar" to help reduce rear lateral bending. Rear body torsional rigidity is improved by up to 22 percent and rear body vertical bending rigidity is improved by up to 30 percent. Additional enhancements include the use of a carbon fiber composite radiator housing and strengthening of the rear fender and hatch areas.
The new structure weighs slightly less than the Z. The Z uses a front double wishbone suspension, with forged aluminum control arms and steering knuckle. The rear multi-link suspension uses a forged aluminum upper control arm, lower arm and radius rod, the toe control rod is steel and wheel carrier assembly is aluminum.
The brakes have been changed from the more expensive Brembo racing brakes to Nissan branded brakes which are manufactured by Akebono. The coefficient of drag is 0. The Japanese model of the Z Coupe went on sale in December 1, The vehicle was unveiled in the Los Angeles Auto Showwith sales of the North American model beginning at Nissan dealers in early Deliveries of the European model began in April European models went on sale as model year vehicles.
The Roadster will be discontinued in the US market after the model year. However, it will continue to be sold in Canada. Transmission choice is limited to a 6-speed manual with Nissan 's new " SynchroRev Match " function. Handling is improved via stiffened springs and stabilizer bars compared to the Z Coupe. It also has a leather steering wheel with red stitching, a plaque of authenticity, and a commemorative premium satin car cover. The wait for a new Nissan Z sports car is almost over. As we approach the arrival of a replacement for the long-in-the-tooth Z—finally! Here is what we expect from the new Z. The most powerful engine currently in Nissan and Infiniti 's mainstream lineup apart from the GT-R is the twin-turbocharged 3. This is the logical choice for the new Z, then, and sources within Nissan dealerships told Autoblog that this powerful mill will indeed be under the hood.
A seven-speed automatic is the only transmission choice for this engine in the Infinitis, but we're hoping and praying that a stick shift will be offered as well; remember, Nissan did hint that this was possible by bolting up a six-speed manual to this engine for its modified Z concept for the SEMA tuner show this past year.
This engine's displacement calls into question what the new Z will be called. A front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout is the only real way to set up a proper sports car, and the Z will continue on with a newer version of Nissan's FM platform and share many components with the Infiniti Q60 coupe.
That's from an earlier report from Autocarwhich also said that the new car is code-named Z All-wheel drive is within the realm of possibility, given that it's offered as an option on the Q But we don't think Nissan will go this route, as none of the Z's intended competitors—the Toyota SupraFord Mustangand Chevy Camaro —offer the option of four driven wheels.
Autoblog's sources suggested that the original Datsun Z would serve as a styling inspiration for the new Z. We hope that means it will present simple, clean lines rather than the angular, tortured look seen on some Nissan concept and production cars lately. Roundish headlights and ZX-style taillights will reportedly serve as the key retro touches, as seen on our illustration above.
We doubt that the old-school theme will extend inside, however—and that's a good thing, because the Z's cabin is in need of a modern makeover. The cabin should retain its cozy, two-seat atmosphere, but we feel confident that it'll benefit from the latest Nissan infotainment system and a fresh dashboard design.
2009 - 2017 Nissan 370Z
All signs point to the new Nissan Z's arrival being imminent. Our suspicion is that it will make its first appearance sometime later ingoing on sale in the U. We can't wait to see it for real.
Buyer's Guide. Type keyword s to search. Today's Top Stories. Illustration by Radovan Varicak Car and Driver. There's no doubt about it, even the most basic and purest cars are becoming more complicated as they get loaded up with more technology. But there's one standout sports car that bucks that trend: the Nissan Z. It's essentially stuck in a time warp from the previous generation and lacks many of the driver aids and infotainment technology that can be found in even base-model economy cars these days.
But that doesn't mean we don't recommend the Z. Its V6 engine produces a healthy horsepower and lb-ft of torque and comes with a direct-acting six-speed manual gearbox to send the power to the rear wheels. A Nismo trim squeezes a bit more power out of the same engine hp and lb-ft.
But its improved suspension, aero, and wheels and tires are the real reasons to opt for this factory-modified sports car. In the middle, the Sport model has more dynamic capability than the base model, while the Sport Touring version adds luxury touches and some in-car electronics. However, the Z is now in its 10th year of production. And other sports cars, such as the Mazda MX-5 and Toyota 86, offer an even purer driving experience coupled with the benefits of more modern engineering and design.
On the other end of the spectrum, cars such as the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro perform like a sports car but with a back seat and modern electronics. Either way, all of these models instill the same passion for sports cars and driving. The Nissan Z is a two-seat sports car available as a hatchback coupe that comes in baseSportSport Touringand Nismo trims.
All are equipped with a non-turbocharged 3. This engine produces horsepower and lb-ft of torque, but the Nismo version bumps it up to hp and lb-ft. A 50th Anniversary Edition model based on the Sport is new for The base Z comes standard with inch wheels, summer performance tires, automatic xenon headlights, LED running lights and taillights, keyless ignition and entry, a rearview camera, cruise control, automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, four-way manual front seats, cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped tilt-only steering wheel, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack.
Upgrade to the Sport coupe trim and you'll get a limited-slip differential, upgraded brakes, a rev-matching downshift feature, inch wheels, heated mirrors, chin and rear deck spoilers, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system.
The Sport Touring coupe trim loses the Sport's performance upgrades but adds leather and simulated-suede upholstery, upgraded interior trim, a rear cargo cover coupe onlyheated four-way power-adjustable seats with adjustable lumbar for the drivera 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, a USB port, voice controls, Bluetooth audio connectivity, satellite radio, a media player interface, and the Bose audio system.
The Z Nismo gets a more powerful version of the standard 3.My tuner was curious and I couldn't really think of anything over or so, but a friend said hes seen around Can anyone chime in? Highest hp z NA?? Pretty pointless since some dynos read so much higher than others. I'm not trying to get technical about it I'm just asking for highest recorded numbers. I know there's variables. There have been claims of people doing whp, but very little proof dyno sheets.

Without insanely optimistic values, if we're talking dynojet and SAE correction STD tends to inflate on NA cars and there's many fudge factors on load bearing dynosI'd say around Full exhaust, lightened pulleys, tune, intake, reasonably nice weather, etc. Anything much over would raise my eyebrow and even THAT is really high. Nismos may dyno a bit higher.
Still trying to confirm whether that's an artifact of there being few dynos and all in 5th gear tends to read more torquey than 4th or just different VVEL tuning, as the other changes can be accounted for.

How can we help you?The latest iteration is the Z34, a. Summed up, the Z gets slick styling, updated cabin tech, RWD handling, and a solid amount of thrust, making it a 21st-century performance-machine worthy of the letter Z. Unlike most manufacturers, Nissan did it right when designing its next-gen sports car.
Compared to the previous generation the Zthe Z gets smaller dimensions and lower weight, plus increased chassis rigidity and higher engine output — exactly the right combo when aiming to please throngs of enthusiasts. These days, the Z needs to evolve, which is a tricky proposition for a model bearing nearly five decades of history. The story of the Z really begins with a man — Yutaka Katayama. K convinced the higher-ups of the need for an affordable sports car for the international market, and in October ofthe first Z car hit dealerships.
Later versions saw engine displacement increase to 2.You Won't BELIEVE What Nissan Quoted For New GT-R Brakes!
The Z was a huge hit, and inthe second-gen ZX hit the scene. Offered as both a coupe and a t-top, the ZX was framed as a more luxurious grand tourer, rather than a sports car.
Engine specs included either a horsepower naturally aspirated inline-six, or horsepower turbo inline-six. The GT personality traits continued with the third-gen model, the ZX.
Under the hood was equipped a new 3. Output was rated at horsepower for the naturally aspirated configuration, and upwards of horsepower for U. The ZX received numerous updates throughout its lifecycle, but the biggest came in with the introduction of the Z While still bearing the ZX nameplate, the Z32 was effectively a fourth-generation Z car, and included the option for a twin-turbo six-cylinder producing horsepower.
2021 Nissan Z: What We Know So Far
Seen as a technological powerhouse, the new ZX was designed using CAD software and offered four-wheel steering — both impressive innovations at the time. Inthe Z32 was discontinued in the U. Fast forward six years. Following a buyout by Renault, Nissan reintroduced the Z nameplate with the Z Coupe inmarking a fifth generation. The Z Roadster was introduced two years later.
Bearing a tuned version of the ubiquitous 3. Public reception was generally quite positive, and following a slew of updates and special editions, including several Nismo models, the sixth-generation Z debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in Labeled as the Z, the new model came with an updated engine, new styling, and revamped chassis. Originally sold as a coupe in January ofthe go-faster Nismo variant hit dealers that summer as a late model release.
The Roadster model followed for the model year.In its standard versions the 3. Its good, but not impressive for a sports car like the Z. So Stillen comes with a Supercharger System that raises the power to an impressive hp for both models.
The tuner designed a new cast aluminum intake manifold specifically for this system, featuring longer runners and a large plenum for the engine to draw air, complete with integrated air-to-water intercooler system, dramatically cooling the air charge from the Vortech V-3 Supercharger unit. The tuning steps include: an ECU based tuning device, larger cc injectors, and high output fuel pump.
This complete bolt-on kit includes everything needed to increase the factory horsepower to a tire shredding horsepower on 91 octane pump fuel! STILLEN designed a new cast aluminum intake manifold specifically for this system, featuring longer runners and a large plenum for the engine to draw air, complete with integrated air-to-water intercooler system, dramatically cooling the air charge from the Vortech V-3 Supercharger unit.
The V-3 features a self-contained oiling system and quiet V-belt design, with plenty of additional boost capability for those wanting even more power down the road. Much of the assembly of the kit is done in advance, with the main supercharger unit being pre-assembled to the laser-cut billet aluminum mounting brackets.
Installation is very straight forward, including detailed step-by-step instructions, requiring a typical shop hours for the complete install. STILLEN took extreme care in designing this system, ensuring that all additional coolers oil, transmission, power steering, etc would work with the intercooler system, as the Nissan VQ37 engine is prone to high oil temperatures unless properly cooled. STILLEN manufactures bolt-on cooler kits to keep these temperatures at normal levels no matter how hard the vehicle is being pushed.
Tuning is done with the use of an ECU based tuning device reflashlarger cc injectors, and high output fuel pump. At the onset of this project Steve Millen established two primary goals, performance and reliability. Tanner Foust drifts with a hp z just fine at lbs, while a base z is lbs. High horsepower makes it easier for some people. I know people who can drift Corollas and people who can drift cars around hp.
Its all about how you like it. Higher horsepower makes it easier for a RWD car to get sideways though, that is for sure. A supercharger rather than turbo on a car like this? Read More. What do you think?
